The best way to find your favorite sparkling style is to try it. We talked with Maurício Roloff, from the Brazilian Wine Institute (Ibravin), about the ABC of sparkling wines and separated some tips for those who are improving the palate.

First, open the bottle
The easiest way is to hold the bottle with both hands, placing one on the cork and the other on the base of the bottle. The easiest thing is to twist the bottle, not the cork. So you need to use less strength in the task. Leave to twist the cork only at the end, when it is almost out, to control the noise of the popping. The formal etiquette asks for the opening of a sparkling wine to happen without making a noise, or as little as possible, and would also say not to shake the bottle. The important thing is to guarantee a good experience, and a little noise attracts attention and invites people to share a toast, so it’s not all bad.

The best sparkling wine is the one you like
Pay attention mainly to categories of sweetness (dry / medium-dry / sweet), preparation method (Charmat / Traditional / Moscatel) and price (the one that fits in your pocket). By identifying your favorite parameters, it becomes easier to make the right choice. When in doubt, write down the labels you liked best.

Always drink ice cream

The lighter the sparkling wine, the colder it must be. To set the temperature (ideally between 6 ° C and 10 ° C), use an ice bucket or ice bag to cool the bottles (see our accessory hotlist here). Place the sparkling wine on a lot of ice and a little water (until it covers the label) inside the container for 20 minutes before serving.

Refrigerator only as a last resort

The refrigerator is not wine-friendly. The temperature is irregular, there is chatter and the aroma of the food can impregnate the bottle or the cork and disrupt the tasting. Also avoid using the freezer, as it can freeze the cork.

Store the sparkling wine in a cool place

The rules for preserving are the same as for a wine: the bottles must be kept in an airy place, with a cool and constant temperature (around 15 ° C is ideal), without incidence of light. Most of the sparkling wines available on the market are made to be drunk soon, so only stock bottles at home if you are in the habit of tasting often or are already planning to consume.

Bottle lying or standing?

It is best to leave the bottle lying down, so the cork is always in contact with the drink, with less risk of the cork drying out and allowing air to enter the bottle. But this rule applies mainly to bottles that will remain stored for a long time, which is not the case for most sparkling wines.

The cup makes all the difference

There are bowls that favor the expression of perlage (as we call the formation of bubbles in the bowl - you can already write that term down). Others, not so much. In general, crystal glasses are best for more specialized tasting. Glass pieces are not a problem, as long as they are transparent. Colored goblets are good only in relaxed situations, where there is no intention to seriously analyze what you are drinking. And one of the latest fashions in the sector are colored acrylic bowls. They allow a very informal tasting, ideal for situations such as the beach or pool, picnics and meetings with friends.

There was sparkling wine left in the bottle, now what?
Sparkling wines are more difficult to maintain with quality after opening than other wines, basically due to the rapid loss of gas in the bottles after opening. There are some special caps that seal the neck to hold the bubbles (perlage), but they do not guarantee a very long survival. The maximum storage time after opening is from one day to the next. This does not mean that what is left should go down the drain. The rest of the bottle can be used to replace white wines in recipes.

And if you still don't know where to start, we've separated a list with 15 labels to get to know Brazilian sparkling wines.

Boscoli Dirty Martini Olive Juice 12.7 ounces (Pack of 3)

Martini cocktail

The martini or dry martini (Dry Martini in English) is one of the best-known cocktails, made up of gin with a jet of vermouth. It is usually served in a cocktail glass, garnished with a crossed olive. There are numerous variants of the martini, although perhaps the best known is the Vodka martini, in which the gin is replaced by vodka.

Preparation
According to the IBA (International Bartenders Association), 2 the martini recipe consists of:

  • 5.5 cl of gin (or vodka in the case of Vodka martini)
  • 1.5 cl of dry vermouth
  • The ingredients are added in a mixing glass with ice cubes, and should be stirred well. It is served without ice, in a chilled cocktail glass, squeezing the oil from the skin of a lemon or garnished with a cross olive.

Variations
In addition to the Vodka Martini, there are several variations of the recipe, such as the sweet Martini, in which the dry vermouth is replaced by red vermouth and decorated with a maraschino cherry; 3 or the Perfect Martini (perfect Martini), composed of 5.5 cl of gin, 1.0 cl of dry vermouth and 1.0 cl of red vermouth, decorated with lemon peel or a maraschino cherry. 4 Also the Gibson, a martini served with one or two pearl onions instead of the classic olive.

Another notable variation is the one known as Clarito, created by the famous Argentine bartender Santiago Policastro, in which the olive is replaced by a lemon peel garnish, which gives the drink a slightly milder flavor.

History
The Martini appears to have been created around 1910. Its name could derive from Mr. Martini, bar chief of the New York Knickerbocker Club room in the first decade of the 20th century. Another theory relates it to a Mr. Martinez, who was able to invent the cocktail in a Boston bar in the late 19th century. It can also derive from the vermouth brand Martini & Rossi, which exported their products to the United States long before the cocktail existed.

There are numerous anecdotes or legends related to the Martini. When the American Dry Act was repealed, newly elected President Franklin Delano Roosevelt prepared a dry Martini at the White House to make the mandate official; 6 years later, at the 1943 Tehran Conference, Roosevelt himself prepared a Martini for Stalin. , who opined that it "cools the stomach more than anything else", a opinion denied by his successor, Nikita Khrushchev, who after drinking an especially strong one said that it was "the most lethal of American weapons."

There are also several theories and legends about the exact proportions of the Martini. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill is said to have been known to prefer a dry Martini to the one that was "shown," without adding vermouth. Ernest Hemingway is also said to have liked a high ratio of gin (15 to 1), rather than the classic mix (8 to 2) .

The discussion about the way the Martini is prepared is also well-known, represented in popular culture in the figure of James Bond, the character of the English novelist Ian Fleming, who in all his films, when he asks for his favorite drink, adds: «agitated, not stirred », which is strictly called a" Bradford ". W. Somerset Maugham stated on the other hand that "a Martini must always be stirred, not shaken, so that the molecules rest sensually on top of each other." The difference between mixing or shaking the cocktail is really indistinguishable, and the choice of one or the other method lies in the belief that, in some way, the drink is affected by the way of preparation.

Its popularity is such that it has given its name to the most universal cocktail glass, triangular in shape, which is called a martini or cocktail glass.

Margarita cocktail, the cocktail with a Mexican flavor

Within the world of cocktails, we can find countless different proposals and a large number of classics. Origin of the Margarita cocktail
On the origins of the Margarita cocktail there are a large number of versions. They all have something in common, a woman named Marjorie, Margaret or Margarita.

One of the versions about its origin takes us back to 1938, to the Rancho La Gloria restaurant, by Carlos Herrera. For starters, it seems that a cocktail was created in this place for one of her clients, who was allergic to different spirits except for tequila. The name was Ziegfeld Marjorie King.

Another of the possible origins of this cocktail dates back to 1941 at the Hussong’s Cantina, in Ensenada (Mexico). A bartender named Carlos Orozco created the cocktail for Margarita Henkel, the daughter of the then-German ambassador. As he was the first person to try this combination, he decided to baptize it with his name.

The Margarita cocktail, the cocktail with a Mexican flavor with 70 years of history
Some scholars claim that after 70 years of the Margarita cocktail, it can only have one origin. This dates back to 1949, being invented by Margaret Sames. She was a high society lady who served this cocktail for her visits at her home in Acapulco.

These are not the only hypotheses about the origin of this cocktail. But the important thing is that, whoever created it, we can enjoy it at any time.

Margarita cocktail ingredients
The ingredients of the Margarita cocktail are very easy to find on any large surface. Thanks to this, you can prepare at any time and surprise your family, friends, partner or just treat yourself.

For two glasses of this cocktail, the following ingredients are needed:

  • 3 measures of tequila (a good quality tequila will always be better)
  • 1 Measure of lime juice.
  • 1 Measure of Cointreau or Triple Sec (liquor made with orange peels)
  • Fine table salt.
  • Ice.
  • Shaker with strainer.

Preparation of the cocktail
The Margarita cocktail, the cocktail with a Mexican flavor, is very easy to prepare; you just have to follow a few steps. For starters, if you have them, you should use two Margarita glasses (it is called this cocktail). Then you have to wet the outer edge of the glasses with a lemon or lime wedge so that it is moistened.

Afterwards, a layer of salt is placed on a clean plate and the rim of the glasses is passed over it. This will make the salt stick when wet. Above all, keep in mind to use fine salt since coarse salt does not adhere properly.

Fill the cocktail shaker with ice until little more than half. It is better if the ice is solid, thus preventing it from melting and running. Incorporate the measures of liqueurs and the lime in the cocktail shaker. Once all the ingredients are inside, close the shaker and shake vigorously for a long time. It is advisable to use a kitchen cloth to wrap the shaker and not feel the cold so much in your hands.

After a few energetic minutes, the Margarita cocktail, the cocktail with a Mexican flavor, will be ready. It is time to serve with the cocktail shaker with strainer. We will fill the glasses to the top and you are ready to taste. In this case, you should not put the ice in the glass.

Variations of this combination

In addition to the original version, you can always make very original variations of this combination. Strawberry Margarita cocktail is one of them. The way of preparation is the same as the original version, only the ingredients change.

  • Strawberry Margarita cocktail
  • 1/2 Cup of strawberry puree (better if it is homemade)
  • Juice of two limes.
  • A measure of Triple Sec or Cointreau.
  • A splash of syrup.

Blue daisy
The Margarita cocktail, the cocktail with a Mexican flavor has other versions such as the blue Margarita. Its preparation is the same as those we have seen, although crushed ice is usually incorporated into the glass. The ingredients are:

  • A measure of tequila.
  • 1/2 Measurement of blue Curaçao.
  • The juice of a lime.
  • Syrup.

Tips for preparing a good Margarita cocktail
To prepare the Margarita cocktail, the cocktail with a Mexican flavor, there are several tips to keep in mind. The cup must be cold. A good idea is to put it in the freezer during the making of the cocktail.

In addition, when serving the drink, be careful not to pour it over the frosting of salt. You can have the help of a spoon upside down when serving the Margarita.

To finish, you have to turn the glass as you drink to enjoy it to the fullest. The objective is to take the mixture of salt with lime and the Margarita cocktail, the cocktail with a Mexican flavor.

Margarita cocktail

The margarita is a cocktail made up of tequila, triple sec and lime or lemon juice. It is often served with salt on the rim of the glass. The drink is served by shaking the ice (on the rocks), mixed with ice (frozen margarita), or without ice (up). Although it has become acceptable to serve a margarita in a wide variety of glass containers, ranging from cocktails and wine glasses to even large schooners, the drink is traditionally served in the margarita glass of the same name, a staggered diameter variant of a glass cocktail or champagne glass, something like an inverted hat.

Variations
Flavored spirits
In addition to the Cointreau, other orange-flavored liqueurs are used such as the Grand Marnier or other brands of triple sec or Curaçao azul (which produces the blue margarita). When sweet fruit juices are added to the margarita, orange juice is often reduced or eliminated entirely. In addition to the orange-flavored liqueurs, there are other liqueurs that can be added to the cocktail from time to time, such as raspberry or melon. Other flavors include pineapple and watermelon.

Fresh lime juice
Freshly squeezed lime juice is the key ingredient. The most common variety in the United States is the thick-skinned Persian lime. However, daisies in Mexico are generally made with acid lime, which are called "lemons" in Mexico (and vice versa, by the way). These are small, thin-skinned, and more acidic compared to Persian files. Daisies made with Persian lime have a milder flavor, especially when using Meyer files.

Frozen margarita
In addition to being served agitated and "up" like other cocktails, margaritas can also be served as a mixed ice slushie, similar to other tropical-inspired drinks like Hurricane or Pina Colada. This variant is known as a "frozen" margarita. Ingredients can be poured onto crushed ice in a kitchen or industrial blender. A high amount of frozen margarita based on a "house recipe" can be kept in a machine designed specifically for that purpose (but also commonly used to serve non-alcoholic beverages). Such a machine is usually a cylinder leading to a pour spout that is kept below freezing temperature, but with an impeller inside the cylinder that constantly agitates the mixture so that it never freezes, dispensing drinks with a textured sleet. The first frozen margarita machine was invented on May 11, 1971 in Dallas by restaurateur Mariano Martínez. The machine was originally a soft ice cream machine and is now housed in the Smithsonian National Museum of History.1

Other fruits
Alternative fruits and juice mixes can also be used in a margarita. Fruits like mango, peach, strawberry, banana, cantaloupe, or raspberry are suitable for creating this drink. Many recipes call for a splash of orange juice. Today, the margarita can be prepared in many different ways. When the word "margarita" is used by itself, it usually refers to the one made with salt and lemon juice, but when other juices are used, the fruits are typically added as adjectives to the name, such as the raspberry margarita. Other varieties of margarita include fruit, top shelf margarita, and virgin margarita.

Crown
Some bars and restaurants serve a "Coronarita", which is a beer cocktail consisting of a bottle of Corona turned upside down to drain on a margarita.

History
One version says that in 1938, Carlos "Anny" Herrera, at his restaurant in Rancho La Gloria, halfway between Tijuana and Rosarito, devised it for the client and former dancer Ziegfeld Marjorie King, who was allergic to many spirits, but not to tequila.2 This story was told by Herrera and also by the barman Alberto Hernández, known for the popularization of the Margarita in San Diego after 1947, at the La Plaza restaurant in La Jolla. 3 Hernández claimed that the owner of La Plaza, Morris Locke, knew about Herrera and visited Mexico frequently.

Another of the earliest stories about the Margarita is that it was invented in Tehuacán Puebla, Mexico, in 1936. The manager of the Hotel Garci-Crespo (Danny Negrete) decided to create a drink for his girlfriend who liked salt so much, that the He drank with everything he drank. One fine day Danny frosted the edge of his glass with salt and combined tequila, cointreau and lemon juice. Then he stirred the concoction and filled his girlfriend's glass. That girl tried the first Margarita in history.

A commonly accepted story about the origin of the Margarita is that it was invented in October 1941, in the Hussong Cantina, in Ensenada, Mexico, by the bartender Don Carlos Orozco. One afternoon, Margarita Henkel, the daughter of the then German ambassador, who lived with her husband Roy Parodi at Rancho Hamilton, near the city and who was a regular visitor to the canteen, arrived at the same and Don Carlos, who had been experiencing with the drinks, he offered her one. The cocktail consisted of equal parts tequila, Mexican orange liqueur called Controy (known as Naranja in the United States) and lemon, mixed and served with ice in a glass with frosty salt. At the same time that he was the first to taste the drink, Don Carlos decided to name it and the "Margarita" was born.4 Another ingredient used by this bartender was damiana liquor, a plant endemic to the region.5

A very popular version is that the daisy was invented in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico. Legend has it that the Margarita cocktail was invented in Ciudad Juárez by the barman Lorenzo Hernández who worked for more than 50 years at the Kentucky Bar in Ciudad Juárez México. The Margarita cocktail is a rich mixture of Tequila, Cointreau (orange liqueur) and lemon juice that is served in a frosty glass with salt on the edges, as well as with frappe or cubed ice, depending on where you drink it.

Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua along with Ensenada and Tijuana from the state of Baja California in Mexico, dispute with Beverly Hills, California to be the cradle of the drink.

However, the history that accompanies the drink in Ciudad Juárez, gives greater truth and weight in the debate, in which it is only clear that it was named in honor of a lady with that name. According to Peña Jr., Lorenzo Hernández in 1942, created the drink at the request of a regular customer who wanted to give his wife a special gift, a drink that had tequila and lemon as ingredients.

"When the woman asked Don Lorenzo the name of the drink, he replied, 'Her name is Margarita,'" and the rest is history.

... "This is where the margarita from the Kentucky Club of Ciudad Juárez came from for the world and the drink is still being sold and is internationally famous," added Delgado manager .... (Kentucky bar opened in 1920 to date 2020 still open to the public).

There are also those who allege that the Margarita was first mixed in the El Paso Juárez area at the Tommy Place Bar on July 4, 1942, by Francisco "Pancho" Morales. Morales later left the cocktail bar in Mexico to become a U.S. citizen, where he worked as a milkman for 25 years. Mexico's official news agency Notimex and many other experts have said Morales makes the strongest claim to have invented the margarita.6 Others say the inventor was the socialite Margarita Sames, when she invented the drink for her guests at her Acapulco vacation home in 1948. Tommy Hilton reportedly attended on that occasion, bringing the drink into the Hilton hotel chain.7 However, Jose Cuervo was already promoting ad campaigns for margarita three years earlier, in 1945, with the motto, "Margarita: it is more than a woman's name." According to José Cuervo, the cocktail was invented in 1938 by a bartender in honor of the Mexican showgirl Rita de la Rosa.8

If you have drunk excessively, we show you the different home remedies to remove a hangover and quickly recover from this terrible discomfort.

When you spend with alcohol, the next day we have the dreaded hangover: headache, dizziness, fatigue, anxiety, etc., in general we will feel a discomfort in the whole body so great that it will probably lead us to say the typical phrases of " I don't go out again "or" I never drink alcohol again ".

Take ibuprofen or aspirin
In hangover periods, anti-inflammatories will help fight the unpleasant headache that we have with hangovers, so it is best to take ibuprofen or aspirin. It should be noted that if we have a bad stomach and have indigestion we should not take ibuprofen as it can worsen the symptoms.

We must discard paracetamol as much as possible, since when we have a hangover, the liver is working excessively because it has to eliminate toxic substances from our body and this type of medication makes our long-suffering liver work even more. To improve the health of our liver we can carry out some purifying treatment that we show you, which can be very beneficial for the elimination of these toxins.

Avoid coffee
Many people eat coffee in the morning for breakfast, but in case of having a hangover it is not recommended, since coffee is a diuretic drink and the only thing you will achieve will be to increase the dehydration that your body has, making the situation worse. Instead of drinking coffee, have a piece of fruit. You will replenish vitamins and sugars.

If you have heartburn, avoid taking citrus fruits, because they will make you feel bad. You can substitute an orange for an apple.

Eat well
It is possible that in the hangover state you do not want much food and we are not going to recommend that you binge, but you should eat to get your body to be able to reduce alcohol levels. Even if you have a lack of appetite, make a little effort to eat, because you will feel better.

If you are very nauseous, eat slowly and in small amounts, but don't have an empty stomach.

You should preferably eat carbohydrates, so a plate of pasta or rice can be perfect.

Drink a lot of water
One of the effects of alcohol is that it dehydrates our body and is the main cause that the next day we feel so bad, therefore it is necessary to replace fluids as soon as possible.

It is highly recommended to drink water before going to sleep when we get home from the party to alleviate a bit of hangover symptoms and drink water as soon as we get up in the morning. Throughout the day continue drinking water little by little, it will help a lot to cure the hangover and if you add a little sugar, better than better. We will feel better before.

Eat a banana
Bananas contain potassium and antacids that will help reduce inflammation of the blood vessels and eliminate nausea that we may have due to hangovers, in addition they can also be useful to eliminate headaches. This is why it is highly recommended to take a banana as soon as we get out of bed.

Have a tomato or gazpacho juice
Tomato juice is very rich in vitamins (A, B1, B2, B3, B6, C, K and E) and minerals and when we have a hangover we need to replace them, also tomato is an excellent antioxidant, which will help us Also to eliminate toxins, it is for these reasons that a tomato juice can work miracles.

If we can take a gazpacho better than better, because in addition to tomato it has other vegetables that will provide us with many more vitamins and minerals. You will immediately notice an improvement!

Things you should not do to remove your hangover
There are many false myths about hangover methods that only make things worse and other things we do without knowing they are going to hurt us. Keep in mind what you should never do when you have a hangover:

 Take paracetamol.
  •  Eating junk food or food high in fat: they will cause an upset stomach.
  •  Go to the sauna: There is a false belief that the sauna helps to eliminate toxins from alcohol, however, this is false and we can also feel much worse in the sauna due to the heat and dehydration it causes us.
  •  Consume caffeinated beverages: As mentioned above, caffeine is diuretic, which will dehydrate us more. In addition, it can cause stomach discomfort, causing heartburn.
  • Drinking more alcohol: Drinking more alcohol is a very bad idea, you will only manage to lengthen the time that your hangover lasts.

Things you must do to prevent hangovers
  • Although it is obvious, we must say it: drink in moderation. However, it is not necessary to end up in a drunken state to suffer a hangover, sometimes we suffer from a hangover without having gotten drunk.
  •  Eat before drinking: it is important to eat before drinking, since in this way the absorption of alcohol will slow down, so you will not be overloading the activity of the liver and will be able to work at a more adequate rhythm. You can take nuts or foods rich in vitamin B or fatty foods (you must consume fatty foods before having a hangover), you can also take protein.

It is better to drink white drinks than dark alcohols.
  • Try to drink with breaks between cups. Drinking too often makes our body unable to keep up with the rhythm and becomes saturated due to not being able to metabolize the amount of alcohol that we are ingesting.
  •  Try drinking water or juice between one glass and another. It helps reduce dehydration and gives the body more time to process alcohol. The intoxication will be less.
  • Drink slowly, take small sips. If you drink too fast, hangover symptoms will also come faster.
  •  Avoid mixing different types of drinks.
