Cut your own firewood with a chainsaw
Whether for fireplaces in winter or for barbecue in summer, chopping your own wood is more fun than buying ready-made firewood. Preparing your own firewood is also useful for areas to be reforested. Cutting wood as much as you use will encourage sustainable forestry activities. This preserves the naturalness of the forest and significantly reduces the long transport routes for trade. This also applies to trees in your own gardens and meadows; they can also be converted into firewood.
We've compiled a few useful and practical tips for you that will make your cutting of wood easier in the future.
Protective clothing
When working with a chainsaw, even professional wood cutters need the right protective equipment. When working with a chainsaw, you should wear face protection or goggles to protect your face and eyes. When using the chainsaw, you will need ear protection, such as ear plugs. You don't need this when working with a cordless saw like the MSA 200 C-BQ.
Making firewood from tree trunks
We recommend that you first cut tree trunks, stumps and branches up to one meter in length. You can do this at home in your own garden or in the forest. Thus, small parts can be cut more easily on the sawing machine.
First of all, we will show you the simplest way to cut a thick piece of wood, whether it is a bench you have built yourself, or on the floor, which will give you an ergonomic work opportunity. Next, we will explain how to shred one meter of logs and prepare them for sawing on the saw bench.
First, draw the body into equal parts and mark them before cutting lengthwise. For example, you can use a tape measure, mark the body at one meter intervals with a marker pen or marker spray. This way you can predict where to put the chainsaw for the next cut.
Cut the body on the floor
The trunk can be cut longitudinally if it is on a surface that allows sawing, even on hard ground in the forest or on soft ground such as garden grass. However, before you start cutting, make sure that the log does not roll. Use wedges or small pieces of wood to keep them in place if necessary. As a general rule, you should not let the saw touch the ground when cutting. This will damage the chain.
Step by step application:
1. Switch on the saw and gently place it on the marked points as the chain moves slowly. Cut an average of three quarters of the hull. This prevents you from entering the floor with the saw. Repeat this process on all marked sections.
2. At this stage, the log must be turned - use a release lever if necessary. Before you continue work, do another check to ensure that the body does not roll.
3. You can now finish cutting the opposite side. Learn how one-meter logs are divided into bölme Splitting thick bodies and one-meter logs ”.
Handmade cut on a support
If the floor is not suitable for working directly, you can use a support. This protects both the chain and your back. Cutting on higher ground is easier because it provides a more ergonomic working height. All you have to do is a little support from the log. You can do this yourself by grooving a piece of logs. Again, you should check that the log is standing firm so that it does not move on the floor.
Step by step application:
1. To make the support, first cut a piece of the body and make a V-shaped groove. The V-shaped groove should be the width of the tree trunk you want to cut.
2. Make sure the bracket is in a firm position, and then place the chassis on it. The log should be fixed, if necessary with wedges or small wooden pieces.
3. If you want a clean cut, you should cut the marked points slowly. Make sure that the cut section does not fall on your foot.
4. Move the luggage compartment to the correct position if necessary to avoid cutting the support when cutting next time. Cutting is repeated until the entire body is cut to length. In the next section, learn the wood separation of one meter long logs.
Splitting thick trunks and one-meter stumps
No matter how much you cut the log, the log should ultimately be cut into pieces of the right size for your fireplace. Small logs dry better. Drying is important because moist wood does not burn well, soot and smoke are removed.
Step by step application:
1. Place one meter long slab horizontally on the floor and make sure it is secure. The fixed billet can now be cut transversely to a depth of ten centimeters from top to bottom.
2. The opening is then provided using separation wedges. If a recess is opened for the wedge, it is the easiest way to use the wedge. Depending on the thickness of the log, it may be necessary to divide the unfinished regions again.
3. The split wood pieces can then be divided into smaller pieces on the saw bench.
Turn thin bodies, branches and split pieces into firewood
If you want to make small trunks, branches or one meter of firewood into firewood, you can use a practical bench. This allows you to safely position the wood and provide maximum comfort when cutting firewood.
Step by step application:
1. Place the log on the donkey and secure it with an elastic cable or chain to prevent it from moving.
2. Operate the chainsaw safely and position it to start cutting.
3. You can now cut the slab properly.
Important tip: The log should be dried for approximately two years before it can be used for the fireplace. Proper wood storage is therefore important. Protect logs from heaps, rain and damp conditions so air can circulate between them.
